The Art of Living: A Personal Perspective

The Art of Living is a primary bedroom refresh centered on creating a space that feels personal, expressive, and thoughtfully collected. Designed for two creatives with a shared appreciation for art, mid-century modern design, and bold interiors, the project focused on transforming their existing bedroom into a space that better reflected their personalities and the things they love. The goal was to create a room that felt visually interesting and layered while maintaining the comfort and calm expected of a bedroom.

The scope included furniture and accessory selection, lighting, artwork curation, textile layering, and styling. Rather than starting from scratch, the design built upon elements the clients already loved, particularly the room's moody green walls and existing wood furnishings. Working within the original footprint, the focus was on introducing new textures, patterns, and sculptural elements that would complement the existing features while giving the room a more cohesive identity.

A defining element of the project was the balance between bold graphic patterns and the warmth of mid-century modern influences. Black-and-white geometric wallpaper introduces movement and contrast, while the patterned headboard and area rug establish a strong visual connection throughout the space. Warm wood tones, brass accents, soft neutral textiles, and sculptural lighting help balance the graphic elements, creating a room that feels sophisticated without becoming overly formal.

Art played an important role in shaping the overall design. With both clients being art lovers, the room needed to feel like an extension of their creative interests rather than a traditionally decorated bedroom. Expressive portraiture, fashion-inspired artwork, and carefully arranged gallery walls bring personality and cultural influence into the space. Each piece contributes to a collected aesthetic, allowing the artwork to stand on its own while remaining connected to the overall design.

The finished space brings together modern and vintage influences, bold patterns, rich color, and meaningful artwork in a way that feels intentional yet lived-in. What began as a bedroom refresh became a reflection of the people who call it home. The Art of Living celebrates the idea that good design isn't simply about how a space looks, but how it represents the personalities, experiences, and creative spirit of those who live within it.
