Diaspora Dining: Rooted at the Table

This project was a full dining-room refresh centered on creating a warm, design-forward space that feels collected, cultural, and everyday-livable. The scope included developing a cohesive concept that balanced bold pattern, deep moody paint, and soft textile layering, then translating that vision into a finished room through furniture planning, styling, and sourcing.

Work covered: space planning and scale (table + seating layout, circulation, and focal points), a statement wall moment (graphic wallpaper selection + placement), a rich architectural paint strategy (walls/trim for depth), and window styling (drapery selection, length, fullness, and hang height to frame natural light). We layered in lighting direction with a sculptural pendant, curated art styling for a clean gallery moment, and built out a grounded styling story through tonal accessories—ceramics, organic stems, sculptural objects, and tabletop details.

A key element of the project was the seating strategy, designed for both beauty and real-life hosting. Custom vintage seats were sourced and refinished/upholstered to bring in that one-of-one character—mixing heritage texture with modern lines while staying cohesive with the room’s palette. To support flexible entertaining, we also incorporated an additional bench that lives in the space seamlessly but can be pulled up to the table whenever extra guests arrive—expanding seating without crowding the room or sacrificing the clean look.

The finishing layer was all about “moments.” We introduced a custom fringe curtain detail that adds movement and softness at the windows—an intentional tactile element that reads fashion-forward and editorial, while still grounded in the room’s palette

Final deliverables included a fully styled dining room with a cohesive palette, material mix, and “finished” moments from every angle—anchored by a modern heritage point of view that celebrates form, texture, and Diaspora-inspired storytelling at the table.
